Late night baking = terrible lighting for photography!!
I’ve recently brought a couple of new textures and moulds so I thought tonight would be the perfect night to try them out. I was a little disappointed with the PME Gold luster spray, it looks a little more like bronze than gold but it was worth trying to find out.
I still think they look pretty, I love the yellow icing!
Caking.
On Sunday May 20th it’s World Baking Day, and to celebrate the clever cake lovers have come up with the concept of #caking. Just like ‘planking’, which according to the Urban Dictionary involves lying horizontally in a strange or unusual place. To plank you must lay horizontally straighten your body and point your fingers and toes down (towards your feet), then you must name your “plank” and post a picture of the creator (of the plank) performing the pose on Facebook. Caking is very simular, you must…
1. Bake a cake
2. Place it in a strange or unusual place
3. Post the picture on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr and tag #caking!
Here are a couple of my caking contributions… :o)
Work experience.
Due to my current ‘redundant’ status I have a lot of time on my hands but I’m not one to sit idle. Whilst in a previous role I was lucky enough to work on a couple of photo shoots and as baking and food photography is a passion of mine, I was overjoyed when the photographer agreed to let me attend a donut recipe book shoot as part of my quest to gain addition work experience in food styling. Here are a couple of the donuts I helped bake and create.
Tarte Au Citron.
In a quest to make peoples lives sweeter, today I’ve turned my hand to the French classic, tarte au citron. As nuts are currently off the menu for me, I trawled through many a recipe before I stumbled upon Raymond Blanc’s take on the dessert. No almonds, which was a great start and plenty of lemon. I’m yet to try the tarte but I’m happy with how it looks.
